Formed in 2012, the Latvian band Carnival Youth is known for its indie and neo-folk performances. The band’s experimental music is an artful fusion of the ascetics of folk music and the elements of modern instrumental rhythm, without drawing strict lines between the do’s and don’ts of the band’s creative writing process. Carnival Youth’s edgy lyrics and added special effects reveal the full spectrum of the band’s ideal musical formula.
Carnival Youth have released four records – “Never Have Enough” EP, “No Clouds Allowed”, “Propeller” and “Vienā vilcienā” (album with songs in Latvian). These records and their dynamic live performances have granted Carnival Youth a growing fan base all over Europe and critical acclaim.
Carnival Youth have played at “NME Club Night” at KOKO in London and many festivals and showcases, such as SXSW (USA), Mondo.NYC (USA), M for Montreal (Canada), The Great Escape (UK), Sziget (Hungary), Positivus (Latvia), Open’er Festival (Poland), Reeperbahn (Germany), Eurosonic (The Netherlands) and others.
They have toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and their local region several times. Radio personalities like Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music), John Kennedy (XFM) and Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music) have played the band’s tracks on their radio shows. Several songs of Carnival Youth have charted in German and Latvian radio stations. Both full length albums have had campaigns on USA and Canada college radios via Planetary Group and “Propeller” charted on CMJ chart 80.
