German Legends Camouflage Conclude Their 40th Anniversary Tour in Vilnius: A Historic Performance
Reaching a 40-year milestone is a rarity for any band, and not celebrating this achievement with fans would be a sin. To mark this special occasion, the legendary German synth-pop group Camouflage embarked on their "Camouflage Live Tour 2024 (Rewind to the Future and Goodbye)". The final highlight of the tour took place this past Sunday in Vilnius at the Compensa Concert Hall.
The band prepared for their musical journey through time with great love and gratitude toward their fans. Lithuania holds a special place in their hearts, as the country boasts a large number of dedicated admirers of their music. This was their fourth performance in Vilnius, and the first after a 13-year hiatus. The event even attracted well-known figures such as Igor Kofas from Lemon Joy (who previously opened for Camouflage twice in Lithuania), Maxas Melmanas and Serge Grey from Biplan, Jonas Ūsas from Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio dantys, and journalist and TV host Ramūnas Zilnys.
The members of Camouflage say they remember all their performances in Lithuania vividly, but this one was truly historic, serving as a powerful conclusion to their major 40th-anniversary tour. The concert was like a spectacular journey through time, filled with nostalgia, sing-along hits, and mutual gratitude. Special visuals, the unwavering energy of the band’s frontman, thunderous applause, and a sea of raised hands added vibrant colors to the evening.
"We are happy to celebrate our 40th anniversary here with you. Tonight, we’re walking historic paths. We began the show with our newest track, and we’ll play your most beloved songs as well as the ones that mean the most to us," said Camouflage frontman Marcus Meyn at the beginning of the event.
On Sunday in Vilnius, the band performed their most cherished songs, including a track that has never been officially recorded and is only played live—"Fade in Memory." "When we sent its demo on cassette to radio stations and record labels in 1985, nobody showed interest except for one station that sent a letter back saying, ‘You deserve a professional contract,’" Marcus shared during the concert, offering a glimpse into the band’s history.
The group returned to the stage twice, ending the show with their legendary track "Love Is a Shield." Fans also showered their other hits with enthusiasm, including "The Great Commandment," "Strangers Thoughts," "Suspicious Love," and "Me and You." They surprised the audience with an elegant mix of their song "We Are Lovers" with New Order's "Blue Monday" and a rendition of The Cure's "Cold."
The band also performed two new songs, "Everything" and "Rewind to the Future and Goodbye," the latter of which lent its name to the entire anniversary tour. After the concert, Marcus Meyn spent about half an hour in the Compensa foyer taking photos and signing autographs for fans.
The concert was organized by the music agency M.P.3, which is also hosting several other events this year, including Antis' 40th anniversary shows with Algirdas Kaušpėdas and Viktoras Diawara in Vilnius and Palanga, a festive Biplan concert in December at Tamsta Club, Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio dantys' New Year’s Eve show in Palanga, and next year, a European tour concert by US rap legend The Game at Compensa.
