„Gogol Bordello“: Vilnius Declared the Cultural Republic of Gogol Bordero
Vilnius is awaiting an extraordinary cultural event – on
July 30, the famous New York band Gogol Bordello will give a spectacular
performance at Vasaros Terasos. On this occasion, an alternative cultural, punk
republic of Gogol Bordero is temporarily declared in Vilnius, bringing together
the city's creative spaces and inviting the community to support Ukraine.
The creation of this republic and the campaign to support
Ukraine were endorsed by Eugene Hütz himself, the leader of Gogol Bordello, a
star of the New York bohemia, Ukrainian singer, guitarist, and composer.
"Ukraine belongs to Ukrainians! We are an independent
nation, clearly and forever distinct from our criminally insane neighbor. The
proof you all see now is a fierce, mind-boggling battle watched by the
world," says Eugene Hütz, the Ukrainian-born leader of Gogol Bordello.
"Please help us win this battle, help us end this
catastrophe and bring the intruder to justice. Please support Ukraine in its
fight for democracy and freedom. Please donate and raise funds with us. Ukraine
needs all of you. All your support matters."
15 official spaces in the capital have already joined this
unique fundraising campaign for Ukraine. Selected locations will become part of
an alternative territory inspired by the spirit of Gogol Bordello – freedom,
movement, and community. Starting Thursday (July 16), Vilnius cultural venues,
bars, a skate park, and other spaces will turn into official institutions of
the Gogol Bordero republic, where people can support Ukraine and pick up a
special limited-edition Gogol Bordero republic pin.
"Music brought us here. Solidarity keep us together"
– starting with this slogan, the Ukrainian support campaign invites residents
and guests of Vilnius to visit the embassies of the Gogol Bordero republic,
become part of the community, feel the spirit of Gogol Bordello, and support
Ukraine. At the cultural spots of the Gogol Bordero republic, visitors can
expect special offers that will allow them to experience the energy of the
upcoming concert up close and contribute to the support of Ukraine.
How to become a citizen of Gogol Bordero?
Anyone can become an official citizen of the temporarily
established Gogol Bordero republic and express solidarity with Ukraine. To do
this, you need to donate to the Blue / Yellow organization. By visiting any of
the official embassies of the Gogol Bordero republic and showing your donation
confirmation to the staff, you will receive one of two limited-edition Gogol
Bordero pins. This pin symbols official citizen status and community unity,
bringing together music and a meaningful cause.

Gogol Bordello – Faithful Supporters of Ukraine
Eugene Hütz, the leader of the famous New York band Gogol
Bordello, is a great Ukrainian patriot who organizes extraordinary support
campaigns for his country. Born in Kyiv, the musician, whose ancestors partly
hail from Lithuania, organized a massive all-star benefit concert to support
Ukraine in New York City, USA, on March 10, 2022. He brought together top music
stars like Patti Smith, Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields, Craig Finn and
Franz Nicolay of The Hold Steady, Matisyahu, Suzanne Vega, Jesse Malino, Lady
Lamb, Marc Roberge of O.A.R., and many other artists. All funds raised went to
Come Back Alive, the largest foundation providing support to the Ukrainian
Armed Forces.
Created a Song for the President of Ukraine
A few years ago, Gogol Bordello, along with members of
Primus, The Police, and Sean Lennon, the son of the leader of The Beatles,
introduced a track created about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called
"Zelensky: The Man With the Iron Balls." The song, with lyrics
written by Gogol Bordello leader Eugene Hütz and Primus frontman Les Claypool,
was recorded in Ukrainian and English. Part of the proceeds from the soundtrack
sales went to New Ukraine, a non-profit organization providing humanitarian aid
to Ukrainians.
