The tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary masterpiece in Lithuania began fantastically: the large crowd gathered did not spare praise for the world-renowned musical. Exceptional acclaim was given to the extraordinary sound quality, the flawless acting of the cast and soloists, and the breathtaking set design. Many spectators, including some well-known faces, did not hide their admiration—the impression left by the musical was so strong that they are seriously considering seeing the production a second time.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera"—a global phenomenon—can still be seen seven more times in our country from May 20 to 24 at Arena Vilnius. The musical masterpiece is performed in its original language (English), with synchronous translation into Lithuanian displayed on the arena's screens. Celebrity Endorsements: The Best Thing I Have Ever Seen
Following the premiere in Vilnius, prominent figures from the country’s cultural, media, and entertainment sectors did not hold back their emotions and shared extraordinary reviews.
"I almost never write two posts about the same show, but this time I cannot resist. After the first performance of 'The Phantom of the Opera' at the Vilnius arena—I mean, the quality and beauty are at such a level that it surpassed all expectations. The sets, the voices, the sound design (when the Phantom responds and whispers from all corners of the arena in surround sound)—just wow," shared music journalist Ramūnas Zilnys, unable to hide his admiration for the spectacle.
"WOW!!! That is how I can briefly describe The Phantom of the Opera, which is the biggest and most expensive musical ever to arrive in Lithuania. An arena transformed into a cozy theatre, with top-tier artists, costumes, set design, orchestra, and sound. Go and enjoy it. After all, you don't even need to fly to London or NYC—this time, they flew to us!" emphasized Vitalijus Zuikauskas, a prominent host on the radio station "Radiocentras."
"The musical 'The Phantom of the Opera' is the best thing I have ever seen at Arena Vilnius!" said Artūras Butkevičius, the long-time manager of the band "Foje" and Andrius Mamontovas, as well as an event organizer.
"This is a miracle happening right here in Vilnius. It is a must-see; it is a gift for the soul and the eyes—an opportunity not to be missed," shared well-known event and cultural project producer Nijolė Ruzgienė.
A Wave of Emotion Online: A Miracle on Stage
Following the premiere of "The Phantom of the Opera" in Lithuania, a massive wave of admiration swept through social media, with audience members who saw the musical unanimously declaring that a true miracle had occurred on stage.
"It was such a great feeling to meet so many acquaintances and friends yesterday—the Phantom acted as a synergy, a catalyst. The universal uplifting mood of the audience truly filled Arena Vilnius yesterday," one spectator shared their impressions on social media.
People did not hide their pride that a cultural event of this magnitude had reached our country: "Extremely impressive, professional, and tasteful. It is not often that such productions come to Lithuania. This is an event of fantastic beauty and the highest quality—thank you for the opportunity to see art of this caliber in our own country."
The majority of commentators were blown away by the flawless technical execution, with some boldly comparing the Vilnius show to the theatre capitals of the world. "Yesterday was extraordinary! I highly recommend it; this production is even more impressive than in London," the audience shared enthusiastically. Spectators spared no compliments for the perfectly synchronized details: "Flawless orchestra performance and even better sound design, excellent actors, special effects, and sets. An unreal spectacle and unbelievable beauty."
In the most emotional comments, audience members admitted that the grandeur of the musical moved them to tears: "My dream came true—chills went down my spine, I was left speechless, and I want to go again! If any of you are still hesitant, you must visit. Simply wonderful—for the first time, I cried live in the auditorium purely out of beauty! Bravo!"
Musical fans on social media were also amused by an unexpected and curious dispute that arose over the hair color of the main heroine, Christine. As viewers began to question why she appeared as a blonde on the Vilnius stage instead of a brunette, the discussion quickly turned into a real literature lesson. Netizens discovered that in Gastón Leroux's original novel, Christine did indeed have Swedish blood and was blonde.
This tour of "The Phantom of the Opera" is dedicated to celebrating the 40th anniversary of the musical. Since its premiere in London in 1986, the story of the mysterious Phantom and his love for Christine Daaé has captured the hearts of more than 160 million people worldwide. This world-class production is brought to the Baltic States by the music agencies "M.P.3" and "Baltic Music Group" together with the main producers "Broadway Entertainment Group" and "LW Entertainment," in cooperation with Andrew Lloyd Webber's own company "The Really Useful Theatre Company Limited."
