One of the most impressive stage productions of all time, Andrew Lloyd Webber's phenomenal musical "The Phantom of the Opera," is preparing for a grand tour in Lithuania. The musical sensation, which is about to begin its European tour, will be brought to our country in 15 large shipping containers. Along with all the technical equipment, scenography, and costumes required for the production comes the most fragile cargo – the famous, one-ton giant chandelier.
A record series of 8 consecutive performances
The legendary musical "The Phantom of the Opera" celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and will be presented in Lithuania from May 19–24 at "Arena Vilnius" (formerly Twinsbet Arena). A total of eight consecutive performances will take place: two are already 97% sold out, four others are more than half-sold, and two additional shows were announced due to high demand. Tickets for all eight performances can be purchased at "Bilietai.lt" box offices and online at www.bilietai.lt.
The main symbol – a one-ton chandelier
The iconic chandelier of "The Phantom of the Opera" is one of the primary symbols of the production. It weighs over a ton and is three meters wide. No fewer than 6,000 crystal beads were used in its construction. To manage the dramatic chandelier crash scene, often called the climax of the musical, a special hoist with a capacity of 3.5 tons is used.
22 scenography transformations in the arena space
For each performance, the massive arena will be masterfully transformed into an authentic, luxurious theater—creating a unique, cozy chamber atmosphere that allows every spectator to feel like a part of the Paris Opera. A team of 130 people will participate in each show, including actors, technical staff, and orchestra musicians. The sheer scale of the production is illustrated by the fact that 14 costume assistants will work backstage simultaneously to help actors with lightning-fast changes, while 22 impressive scenography transformations will occur throughout the performance.
Musical with Lithuanian subtitles on screens
The world-renowned masterpiece "The Phantom of the Opera" will be performed in the original English language. For the convenience of the audience, synchronous Lithuanian translation will be provided on the arena screens. This will be a unique opportunity to see a top-tier Broadway and London West End-level show, featuring magnificent music, luxurious scenography, spectacular lighting, and pyrotechnic effects.
Celebrating a 40-year anniversary
Celebrating its 40th stage anniversary, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece—inspired by Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel—tells the story of a mysterious, masked genius who lives in the cellars of the Paris Opera House. His obsessive love for Christine Daaé becomes the driving force, pushing the Phantom to seek the girl’s favor and eternal love by any means. The legendary musical has already captivated more than 160 million people in 195 cities worldwide and has won 70 prestigious theater awards.
Created in collaboration with A. L. Webber’s company
The original West End and Broadway production of "The Phantom of the Opera" is presented by the music agency "M.P.3" and "Baltic Music Group" together with lead producers "Broadway Entertainment Group" and "LW Entertainment," in association with Andrew Lloyd Webber's own "The Really Useful Theatre Company Limited." This partnership will allow audiences in Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland to experience the authentic grandeur of the legendary musical.
