Latvia’s most prominent folk-pop group, Tautumeitas, is set to perform two exclusive Midsummer (Joninės) shows in Lithuania. The internationally acclaimed all-female ensemble will perform at Oldman in Palanga on June 23rd and at Vasaros Terasa in Vilnius on June 24th. Tickets are available at Shownet.lt.

To celebrate their upcoming visit, here are facts about the group you might not know:

Founded by Sisters
The group was founded in 2015 by sisters Asnatė and Aurelija Rancāne. Asnatė is a professional ethnomusicologist, and her deep expertise in Latvian folklore serves as the foundation for the group’s unique sound.

The "X Factor" Journey
Before becoming folk-pop icons, the girls gained national fame in 2017 during the first season of X Factor Latvia, where they finished in an impressive 4th place.

Crowns – More Than Just Jewelry
Their signature massive headpieces are known in Latvia as "kroņi" (crowns). The members emphasize that these crowns symbolize female empowerment. Their designs blend traditional motifs with futuristic, almost "underwater world" aesthetics.

Historic Eurovision Performance
In 2025, with their song "Bur man laimi," they became the first Latvian representatives in 21 years (since 2004) to perform their entire Eurovision entry exclusively in the Latvian language. At the 2025 Eurovision Grand Final in Basel, they secured 13th place. This remains Latvia’s best achievement in the contest since 2015.

Ancient Spells in Song Lyrics
The lyrics for "Bur man laimi" aren't just poetry. They incorporate authentic ancient Latvian incantations used by ancestors to summon luck and prosperity.

Global Tours Before the Big Stage
Even before their Eurovision stardom, Tautumeitas had already toured the world, bringing Latvian ethno-pop to audiences in China, Japan, and South Korea.

A Wedding-Themed Debut
Their debut album, Lai māsiņa rotājās! (2017), was recorded with the drum and bagpipe group Auļi. The entire album is dedicated to betrothal and wedding rituals based on ancient Baltic traditions.

Constant "Golden Microphone" Winners
Their albums Tautumeitas (2018) and Dziesmas no Aulejas (2020) were both named Best Folk or World Music Album of the Year at the Latvian Music Awards "Zelta Mikrofons".

A New Release for Midsummer
During their June 2026 shows in Palanga and Vilnius, the group will present their fifth album, "Zem Saules", along with a new track dedicated specifically to the solstice, titled "Spīguļo, Saulīt." The album continues to explore a magical synthesis of Baltic traditions and modern indie-pop—a sound the group describes as "Solar Spell" music.
